FELLOWSHIP ORTHODOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Wally Scherer's Church Page

Welcome to my church page. On Sunday mornings I take my mother to the church where she is a member. She and my father left their former church in West Palm Beach in the early 1980's as a result of doctrinal issues. They were looking for a more conservative church, and one which was nearer to the new house they were building.

FELLOWSHIP ORTHODOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

met the criteria.

It is a small church with an average of about 30 people attending on a typical Sunday morning, including children. One advantage of a small congregation is that, if you are a people oriented person, you can get to know everyone in just a few weeks.

The pastor is Reverend Henry Stanke, a very friendly person who loves the Word of God and preaches and teaches faithfully from it each week. He is very good at visiting members who may be in the hospital from time to time. In fact, he was with my father, reading Romans 8 to him and praying with him, when my father took his last breath in June 2006. My father enjoyed talking about scientific things with the pastor, who majored in Engineering before going to Seminary.

Currently (February 2009) Pastor Stanke is preaching a series from the book of Ecclesiastes, which I find VERY interesting. In fact, one sermon, entitled "Why God Frustrates the College Student" was so good that I asked for several copies of the tape.

There are two services on Sunday; one at 10 AM and one at 6 PM. During the school year there is also a Wednesday night Bible study and prayer time. Additionally, there are various other activities throughout the year, including a quarterly pot-luck dinner after the morning worship service, a Thanksgiving dinner, and various other social gatherings.

Sunday morning worship is very traditional, with hymns from the hymnbook, old and new testament scripture reading, a pastoral prayer ending with all reciting the Lord's Prayer, the passing of the offering plate, and the Bible-based sermon. For a small congregation, you will be surprised at the lively, enthusiastic singing! Following morning worship there are refreshments, then Sunday school classes.

Evening worship is similar, but music also includes selections from the Psaltry, a hymn book with the words entirely from the book of Psalms.
